How do I activate the software in Windows Vista?
Windows Vista will not let you activate Infix unless
you run Infix with Administrator privileges.
Close Infix if it is already running.
Click Start->All Programs->Iceni, and then right-click on
the Infix menu option.
Choose "Run as Administrator" and then provide an administrator
user name and password. Activate Infix.
You should be able to run Infix normally after this (without having to
"Run as administrator").
When editing I get the message "This font does not have all
the characters needed. Select another font." Is there any way around
this problem?
The font you are trying to use is a subset - only the
characters used in the PDF have been included. This is done by PDF creators
to reduce the file size but can make editing difficult.
Whatever application you use to create the PDF (Acrobat Distiller, MS
Word etc.) it should offer you some control over font subsetting.
It is best to turn it off for documents intended for later editing. This
will make your PDFs a little larger but, unless you are using Asian fonts
(Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese, Chinese etc.) the difference shouldn't be
enormous.
The problem is not so common in longer documents since more of a font's
characters will tend to get used, the longer the document is.
Editing
tools are grayed-out and cannot be selected.
This is probably caused by the security restrictions of the document
being viewed. Choose Document->Security... and check the access restrictions
for the document.
You may need to obtain a password in order to unlock the document.
What's
the password for opening my recovered '(autosave)' document?
There is
a bug in Infix 2.0 that can leave recovered files with a password.
The workaround is to rename the recovered file back to "yourfile
(autosave).pdf" as it would have been before
recovery.
Open the original file again. Infix will look to see if there is an autosave file and ask you if you wish to load that instead. Once recovered this time, go to Document->Security... and change the password (or remove it altogether). Then save the recovered file.
This bug is fixed in Infix 2.01 - available from the Infix download page from mid December 2006.
Why
do some hyperlinks move after editing?
Infix reflows text during editing but does
not change the position of any hyperlink annotations as it does
so. This means hyperlink and other kinds of annotation that used
to sit over some text, may end up sitting over different text as
the text reflows underneath them.
Why are some of the annotations in my document missing?
Infix version 1 only displays one kind of annotation - the 'Iceni
Table Box' annotation as created by Infix or Iceni's Gemini software.
All other kinds of annotation will still be retained in the PDF after
editing, but will not be visible.
Infix version 2 display sticky note and hyperlink annotations also.
How
do I make text bold or italic?
Bold text can only be made if the bold version of a font is available
in the document. The same is true of italic and boldItalic text
Underlined text (& strike-out) can be created using the underline button and strike-out menus in Infix 2.
How
do I underline text in Infix version 1?
Underlined text requires the drawing of a thin line underneath the
text and is not something this version of Infix can do automatically.
If there are any straight lines in the document you could copy/paste
a line and position it manually under the text to be underlined.
You may also need to shrink/stretch the line to make it fit the text
being underlined.
Why
can't I copy and paste between Infix and other applications?
Infix cannot copy/paste graphics between itself and other applications.
Only text copy/paste is supported between itself and other applications.
Infix version 2 can Import and Insert graphics from disc and can Export images as JPEG, Tiff and PNG files. It can also copy/paste any object between two different Infix windows.
Why
do font names start with letters such as "AOHAKM+Courier" (Infix
1) ?
Subset fonts are given unique names by the PDF creator by putting
letters in front of the names. It is possible for a PDF to have different
subsets of the same font each with a different set of letters at
the font and each representing different characters on the pages
of the PDF.
Why
do pink space characters appear outside of some text boxes?
When determining the size of a block of text, Infix ignores spaces
at the end of lines. These spaces will normally appear to lay beyond
the right hand edge of text boxes.
Why
does my text disappear as soon as I edit it?
Infix reorders text within the PDF every time
you edit it using the "Text
Tool". In some circumstances this can cause the text to get
put inside a clip or underneath another graphic object. You can use
the selection tool to see if there is something covering the text
and if so, move the object or if it is a clip, you may be able to
delete it without any ill effects.
What
do all the pink rectangles mean?
When you use the "Selection Tool" (black
arrow on the toolbar) all clipping paths on the page show up as pink/magenta
rectangles.
Clip paths are used in PDF to hide parts of images (and sometimes text) and are normally invisible. They can effect the way you edit text and graphics and so Infix shows you were they are by outlining them in pink.
When you save your document, the clipping paths will once again be invisible.
Why
do I get an error when I'm typing characters that are already displayed
in the same font elsewhere on the page?
If a font is badly encoded within the PDF you may
not be able to edit it. You can check to see if a font is encoded correctly
by copying some text written using the font into a text editor like Notepad.
If the text appears to be gibberish when pasted into Notepad, it
is a clear indication the font has been badly encoded. It is generally
not possible to edit this kind of font in Infix.
