Learn How To Edit PDFs
If you regularly use computers at work, school or home then you are probably very familiar with PDFs. PDF stands for Portable Document Format and is a file format universally used for saving documents. They are extremely commonly used as they present a “picture perfect” finished representation of a document and are designed to be viewed on-screen only – this fact leading many people to invest in software which enables them to edit PDFs.
Why use PDFs?
PDFs are so widely used for a number of reasons. They are cross platform, 'indexable', universally printable, universally viewable and more compact and secure than other document formats.
They are cross platform in that PDF files can be created on one computer and read and printed on another - the file format is independent of the software, hardware and the operating system used to create the file.
PDFs are universally printable as they are based on the PostScript language imaging model which means sharp quality printing on all different types of printers. Because of this PDFs are an accepted form for supplying art work to print companies.
Another benefit of PDFs is that they are universally viewable – PDF files have a precise colour match independent of which computer monitor is used. The user is able to magnify documents or parts of documents up to 800% while still retaining the clarity in the text and images.
PDF files are much smaller than other types of file – they are very compact and will in a lot of cases be smaller than the word processor or drawing package files.
The downside to PDFs
So while there are undoubtedly many benefits to working with PDFs, there exists a massive disadvantage. This is that, without specialist software it becomes extremely difficult to edit PDFs. There are many occasions when people need to edit their PDFs , especially if the original document is not available, but this is very tricky and the lies the risk of destruction of the document while trying to edit PDFs.
PDFs are not meant to be edited but are designed to be completed documents which are to be viewed on-screen.
You may find that you need to edit the PDF to alter spelling mistakes or important falsities in the text of you document but this is often not possible on a PDF file. For companies that are sending important documents such as annual reports and want to be free from the risk of it being altered, this is of course the perfect solution, but for the most part and for most people, this is extremely annoying.
Edit PDFswith specialist software
It is possible to invest in software in order to edit PDFs and there are many different packages available to purchase online from a number of different retailers. They are sold with varying prices and with many varying features. It is worth investing in such software in order to edit PDFs as it can make your life a lot easier, especially if you plan to edit PDFs on a regular basis.
